The Elathur police have arrested a youth from Tamil Nadu on the charge for throwing stones at running trains.

Anand Nagappan, 21, was first detained by a group of people from the Elathur railway station on Monday night, and was later handed over to the police team led by sub-inspector Krishnan Kutty.

According to the police, Anand threw stones at two trains — the Coimbatore-Kannur fast passenger and the Netravathi Express. In the first incident, a passenger travelling from Coimbatore to Kannur sustained serious injuries to his hand.

Local people detained the youth as he continued throwing stones at trains. He was charged under Section 324 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code. Police said that the youth had been working as an aide to fishermen at Vengali.  He was produced before court on Tuesday.
