Youth Congress leader attacked

November 29, 2013 12:48 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 07:50 pm IST - Kozhikode:

Perambra constituency Youth Congress president Jithesh Muthukad was attacked by a group of people, allegedly CPI(M) activists, at Muthukat Bazaar near Chakkittapara in the district around 11 a.m. on Thursday.

The Peruvannamuzhi police said the attack was “part of taking revenge” against Mr. Muthukad for the alleged act of sticking posters at Muthukat Bazaar against the president of the LDF-controlled Chakkittapara panchayat, K. Sunil, accusing him of receiving kickbacks for helping to get permission for the controversial iron oar mining contract at Chakkittapara in Kozhikode.

‘Minor incident’

“We have identified a few involved in the attack and have registered a case. The investigation is on,” said the police. When contacted, Mr. Sunil dismissed the attack as a “minor incident.”
