Workshop for engineering aspirants to be held on May 4

Very often students join the engineering institutions without knowing what they are expected to study and how to proceed with a totally different and rigorous environment that exists in the engineering colleges.

They need to be given systematic guidance and instructions to be successful in engineering studies even before they join the course.

With this objective, the Malabar subsection of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in association with Institution of Engineers, Kozhikode Centre, is organising a one-day workshop for engineering aspirants in the city on May 4.

The programme to be held at the Sports Council Hall at Mananchira here is meant for young students aspiring to join engineering after completing their Plus Two and writing the entrance examinations, said the organisers in a release here on Tuesday.

Through interactive sessions by experts and lectures by professionals and academics in the field the students will be introduced to different aspects of engineering studies to make them successful during the course of study.

The programme will be inaugurated by N. N Panicker, Professor Emeritus, California University of Technology and social activist at 10 a.m., said the release.

The inaugural session will be followed by presentations by S. Gopakumar, Dy Director (retd) from VSSC Thiruvananthapuram (Soft skills for engineers), K .P Mohandas, Dean Academic M.E.S College of Engineering and former Dean NIT Calicut (Tips on how to become successful in engineering studies) and Saji Kuriakose, Head, School of Management Studies, M. E.S College of Engineering , Kuttippuram.(Managerial skills for engineering students).

This session will be followed by a question and answer session.

In the afternoon session, the career prospects and special aspects of each of the major streams of engineering will be introduced by academicians, recent graduates and senior engineering students.
