The Railway Special Judicial Magistrate here on Monday sentenced a woman to one month simple imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs.600 on her on the charge of drunken behaviour and causing nuisance to a foreigner at the Kozhikode railway station.

The Magistrate, B.M. Assu, passed the orders after the Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested the woman, Haseenath, 25, of Chengala, Kasaragod district, and produced her before the Railway Court.

The accused was arrested on the basis of a complaint made by the foreigner that she was being troubled by a drunken woman on the railway platform at 4 p.m.

Haseenath was charged with Section 145 (a) [If any person in any railway carriage or upon any part of a railway is in a state of intoxication] and (b) [If any person in any railway carriage or upon any part of a railway commits any nuisance or act of indecency or uses abusive or obscene language] of the Indian Railway Act.

If the accused fails to remit the fine she will have to undergo another two weeks’ imprisonment.
