Woman dies of suspected dengue

May 29, 2013 03:08 pm | Updated 03:08 pm IST - Kozhikode:

A 61-year-old woman from Mukkam, who passed away at a private hospital in Kozhikode city on Tuesday, is suspected to be the first victim of dengue fever in the district this year.

Additional District Medical Officer M.K. Appunni told The Hindu that the woman, Leela, was suffering from various ailments, including dengue, and that it had not been confirmed so far whether dengue was the reason for her death.

Dr. Appunni said dengue was not so critical normally. However, there occurred a ‘dengue shock syndrome’ at times when two or more symptoms of dengue came together in a patient, which could cause death.
