A former activist of the CPI(M) and a key witness in the T. P. Chandrasekharan murder case has testified before the trial court that he witnessed leaders of the CPI(M) plotting to kill the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader.
In his deposition before R. Narayana Pisharadi, special judge of the Special Additional District and Sessions Court (Marad cases), here on Thursday, the witness Suresh Babu, a plant operator at the Orkatteri Diary Co-operative Service Society, said that he overheard the conspiracy hatched by CPI(M) district secretariat member P. Mohanan, Onchiyam area secretary C. H. Ashokan, area committee member K. K. Krishnan and Kunnummakkara local committee member K. C. Ramachandran at the flower shop owned by Padayankandi Raveendran, Orkatteri local committee member, at Orkatteri on April 2, 2012.
The case related to a gang allegedly hired by a section of leaders of the CPI(M) hacking to death RMP leader T.P. Chandrasekharan at Onchiyam on May 4, 2012.
Babu told the court that he along with a friend had gone to the Max Studio at Orkatteri on that day for taking a photograph. While returning, they witnessed the CPI(M) leaders assembled at the flower shop and discussing something very discreetly. So they eavesdropped on their conversation, he said.
The witness said that they had overheard Ramachandran saying that the party workers would not remain quiet if they allowed Chandrasekharan to be alive. To this, Mohanan replied that they would carry out the deed. At that time Raveendran was absent. But Ashokan and Krishnan talked mutely. And they suddenly cut short their talk after noticing us, he said.
Babu said that he had quit the CPI (M) in 2007 and later joined the RMP after Chandrasekharan formed the dissident outfit.
He also admitted in court that two cases had been registered against him, one pertaining to the attack on CPI(M) party office at Orkatteri and CPI(M) workers in 2009. Another witness, R. Manoj Kumar, a civil police officer with Vadakara police station, deposing before the court, said that he taken the seriously injured Chandrasekharan, in the police jeep with the help of two local people, to hospital on May 4.
