Voting machines to be used in Kozhikode for the 16 Lok Sabha polls are being brought from Andhra Pradesh and Punjab.
Half the number of machines needed have already arrived from Andhra Pradesh, District Collector C. A. Latha who is also the District Election Officer said on Wednesday.
The rest would be brought from Punjab shortly.
Officials from the Electronic Corporation of India would also be in the district to ensure the voting machines were in working condition. The list of employees to be deployed for election duty is also ready .
Election officials from Malappuram and Kozhikode districts were put through a training programme at the Collectorate here on Wednesday.
Officials in charge of Assembly segments that form part of Ponnani, Malappuram, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Vadakara and Wayanad Lok Sabha constituencies attended the programme. With the Election Commission issuing the notification for Lok Sabha polls, the code of conduct governing elections has come into force.
All officials will from now on remain under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission.
The code of conduct covers employees of government and public sector offices.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sabu Paul Sebastian told the participating poll officials said that the systematic voter education and electoral participation (SVEEP) has had the desired effect and helped increase polling percentage by educating voters about significance of exercising voting.
Voting percentage which was 73.2 per cent in 2009 Lok Sabha polls had gone up to 75.2 in the 2011 polls.
