The city Corporation council will take immediate action on the basis of a vigilance report on the alleged irregularities in the construction of buildings in the city.
Answering a calling attention motion moved by Socialist Janata (Democratic) [SJ-D] councillor P. Kishenchand, Corporation Secretary B.K. Balaraj said the investigating team had recommended action against five buildings constructed in violation of norms.
Report soughtOverseers had been appointed to check and submit a report, he added.
Councillors P. Devarajan of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] and P.V. Avaran of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) called the council’s attention towards the street dog menace. They said the Corporation should take action in the wake of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) suggestion that rabid dogs should be exterminated and others sterilised. Corporation Health Standing Committee chairperson Janamma Kunhunni said the Corporation could not execute any plans due to the paucity of veterinary surgeons.
Water supplyBrazilia Shamsudeen of the Indian National League (INL) brought up the issue of drinking water supply. The Mayor said it was the duty of the Revenue Department to provide water in tankers during the summer. If the department refused to do it, the Corporation could take it up, she added.
The council decided to bring to the notice of the State government the lag in taking up projects to rejuvenate the Kallai river. CPI(M) councillor Musafir Ahammed said the funds allotted for the purpose by the previous government had not been used.
CPI(M) councillor V.K. Mohandas moved a resolution seeking the inclusion of Kudumbasree workers in the implementation of the Nirbhaya Scheme of the Social Welfare Department. Congress councillor C.S. Sathyabhama sought the inclusion of similar organisations as well. This was rejected by the council.
The resolution was passed after a discussion.
