Government Victoria College, Palakkad, snatched the lead in the race for the overall title at the Calicut University Inter-zone Arts Festival at the Malabar Christian College here on Wednesday.
When the results of 50 events were available, on day three of the festival, the leader had 61 points. In the second place was Farook College, with 52 points. St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri, was third with 43 points.
The day also saw the much-awaited on-stage events getting under way. Among the highlights of the day were Kuchipudi, Thiruvathirakali, and light and classical music.
There was not much of a crowd though for the usually popular events. The low turnout, however, was not entirely surprising, as it is summer vacation for colleges.
Individual champions
With the off-stage events coming to a close, the individual champions in writing and drawing competitions were announced.
T. Abdul Salam of WMO College, Muttil, and C. Gopika of the Institute of Advanced Study, Thrissur, shared the Sahithya Prathibha title, while J.S. Seethal of St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri, became the Chithra Prathibha.
The on-stage events were inaugurated by writer T. Padmanabhan.
