The Government College of Physical Education, East Hill, can play a vital role in turning around the sports education history of the State if dedicated efforts are made, Calicut University Vice Chancellor M. Abdul Salam has said.

He was inaugurating a two-day national seminar on ‘Emerging trends in sports sciences’ at the college here on Thursday.

Dr. Salam said the college was among the few such institutes in the government sector in the State.

The institute could play a pivotal role in creating sportspersons of stature in the changing context. The college would assume significance if a sports university would come up in the State. The potential of sport was yet to be exploited by the State in toto. College Principal R. Binoy presided over the function. Sports Education experts presented papers on a range of subjects including ‘Health and wellness,’ and ‘Psychological perspectives in the process of talent development.’
