Vakkom Abdul Khadir Moulavi was one of the frontrunners of Kerala’s reformation movement that paved the way for the spread of progressive ideas in the civic community and strengthened their self-confidence, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said

He was speaking after presenting the Vakkom Moulavi memorial excellence awards instituted by the Vakkom Moulavi Centre for Studies and Research at Asma Tower, here on Saturday.

Mr. Chandy observed that the contributions of Moulavi were instrumental in the social transformation of backward Muslim women in Kerala. Journalist K. Aboobacker and writer Cheriyamundam Abdul Hameed were presented the Vakkom Abdul Khadir Moulavi memorial excellence awards at the function. A seminar on ‘Media and Criminalised Society’ was held. Media critic Sebastian Paul opened the sessions.

Editors of various vernacular dailies presented papers on the topic.
