Building Inspector accused of taking money from BSNL

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) arrested M. Valsalakumari, 51, Building Inspector with the city Corporation’s Planning wing, on the charge of accepting bribe at the civic body office on Thursday.

The team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) M.P. Premadas, made the arrest while the accused was taking Rs.1,000 from Sunil, an employee of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., sources said. Valsalakumari reportedly demanded the money for granting a building permit to Sunil. The accused allegedly delayed the official procedures in this regard. A sum of Rs.25,000 was also recovered from her possession, VACB sources said.

Valsalakumari was produced before the Kozhikode Vigilance Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
