University to give ID cards, e-mail to distant learners

The University of Calicut will provide identity cards and e-mail IDs to all students registered under the School of Distance Education.

Vice-Chancellor M. Abdul Salam said on Wednesday that apart from issuing identity cards and offering e-mail IDs, plans were afoot to organise exclusive arts and sports festivals for the students under the school.

He was inaugurating a workshop held for the coordinators of the counselling programme centres of the school at the university seminar complex.

Dr. Salam said classes of renowned professors would be made available to distant learners through the Internet. He said their examinations would be streamlined and held as per schedule. Examination calendars would be prepared for the distant learners too.

Syndicate member T.P. Ahamed presided. Syndicate member A. Navas Jan, Controller of Examinations V. Rajagopalan, School of Distance Education director Mohammedunni, and deputy registrar K.P. Sasikumar spoke.

The Vice-Chancellor later inaugurated a personality development programme launched by the Chair for Gandhian Studies. The programme is being offered to those who have taken the Class 10 examinations.
