Providing a rare and unique experience for the students and teachers of the Kendriya Vidyalaya here, the ‘Karkidaka theyyam’ also known as ‘Kuttitheyyam’ was enacted by a student today .

‘Kuttitheyyam’ is held to ward off evil forces, contagious diseases and epidemics.

The excitement reached dizzy heights after it was found that it was Athikesh D. Ram, a class VII student of the school who had enacted it and the students and teachers watched the performance in awe and with a tinge of excitement.

The ‘Kuttitheyyam’ with the accompaniment of traditional ‘thottampattu’ rendered by his grandfather Krishna Perumalayan and chenda played by his uncle Gopikrishnan enacted the performance in the school premises abiding by the tradition and customs attached to the concert.

The ‘Kuttitheyyam’ was received with traditional reception by the school Principal, teachers and other staff members.

Athikesh is the son of dance teachers Ramachandran Velaswaram and Dhanya Ramachandran.
