There is uncertainty over the future of Aided Upper Primary School, Malaparamba, in the city as the State government has not yet made its stance clear on the school’s functioning from the next academic year.
The High Court had directed the government to conduct a hearing with the school Parent-Teacher Association president and the school manager and take an appropriate decision.
The School Samrakshana Samithi members and the school headmistress maintained that the school would function as there was no standing instruction from the court that would adversely affect its functioning. The manager, however, claimed that he had a favourable court order to close down the school from the next academic year.
The school had been at the centre of a controversy ever since its manager P.K. Padmarajan secured a court order to close down the school a couple of years ago. This, however, was later reversed by the court.
With another academic year round the corner, the school manager has come out saying that he had decided to close down the school as he has the backing of a recent court order. “I will close down the school from May 31,” said Mr. Padmarajan.
However, school headmistress N.M. Preethi said that the manager was only reading a portion of the court order that quashed an earlier order given by it against him.
Unaware
“He is unaware of the fact that the court had asked government to take a final decision on the future of the school after a hearing from various stakeholders,” she said.
School protection committee convener M. Jayadeep supported this view. “A clear and final order is yet to come as the government has not made its stance clear,” said Mr. Jayadeep.
