The first and second ranks in the Scheduled Castes category in the engineering stream of the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical Entrance Examinations have been won by students from Kozhikode district.
While Samik Mohan of Manassery near Mukkom bagged the first rank, Akshay Krishna of Kottooli won the second rank.
Samik is the son of Mohandas K., a retired official of the Kasaragod municipality and Babitha K.P., a teacher at the Government U.P. School, Manassery. A former student of Chendamangallur Higher Secondary School and Savio Higher Secondary School, Devagiri, he plans to join the mechanical engineering course at the National Institute of Technology-Calicut.
Akshay is the son of Krishnakanth K., who works with the Income Tax Department in Kozhikode, and Rajatha, an art-and-crafts teacher. He was a student of Silver Hills Public School, Kozhikode. Akshay has cleared the Joint Entrance Examination for admissions to the Indian Institute of Technology and plans to join electrical or mechanical stream at the IIT-Madras.
