Traders from Kerala to visit Gujarat

November 06, 2013 12:48 pm | Updated 12:48 pm IST - Kozhikode:

A team of merchants representing the ‘Marketing and Distributing Company of Keralites,’ a collective of 20 traders, who closed down their trade enterprises in the State allegedly thanks to an “unscientific” and “repressive” VAT system here, will leave for Gujarat for a six-day visit on Saturday to compare the situation there with Kerala.

Addressing a press conference in Kozhikode on Tuesday, the collective said that they were making the visit after receiving a favourable communication from the Gujarat Industries Commissioner R.N. Raval following directives from Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

“The delegates will hold discussions with the concerned ministers and officials regarding the VAT situation and the general trade ambience in Gujarat during the visit,” said C.E. Chakkunni, chairman of the collective. .
