Trade unions’ protest tomorrow

February 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated May 23, 2016 06:38 pm IST - Kozhikode:

Various trade unions and service organisations here have decided to stage a march to all the major Union government offices in the district on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, members of the district-level joint action council of various trade unions, including the CITU, INTUC, and the AITUC, said that the agitations were being fortified in the wake of the Central government’s continued attempts to pursue its “anti-people” and “anti labour” policies.

Protests will be staged in front of the post offices at all the four taluks — Thamarassery, Koyilandy, Vadakara, and Kozhikode — at 9 a.m., they said.

The council members alleged that the Union government was going ahead with its neo-liberal policies with increased enthusiasm despite protest from various quarters.

Some of the major demands of the trade unions include steps to check price rise; more employment opportunities; strict enforcement of employment laws, and assurance of social security and protection of workers in the unorganised sector.

The protestill be part of a nation-wide agitation on the same day.
