A prosecution witness in the case of the murder of RMP leader T.P. Chandrasekharan on Wednesday told the special court that he had seen K.C. Ramachandran, member of the Kunnummakkara local committee of the CPI (M), along with a group, including two assailants, in the verandah at Sameera Apartments in Chokli, Kannur, on April 10, 2012.
Deposing before R. Narayana Pishradi, judge, Special Additional District and Sessions Court (Marad cases) at Eranhipalam, the witness, Sajeendran Meethil, said he did not know Ramchandran, who was arraigned as eighth accused in the case, by his name. But he could easily identify him by his appearance.
However, he knew the others Ramachandran was seen talking to as N.K.Sunil Kumar aka Sunil Kumar (third accused); M.C. Anoop (first accused); Manojan aka Trouser Manojan (11 accused) and Jyothi Babu (12 accused), who is a member of the Kunnothuparamba local committee of the CPI (M).
According to the prosecution the plot to kill Chandrasekharan was hatched at Sameera Apartments where Kodi Suni resided.
He also testified that a motorcycle and a jeep were parked in front of the building. Mr. Sajeendran also identified all the accused when they were paraded in the court hall. During cross-examination by defence counsel, Mr. Sajeendran said he was a sympathiser of the Rashtriya Sweyamsevak Sangh (RSS) and not a leader of the organisation. He also admitted that he was an accused in a case of attempt to murder a CPI (M) activist, Palloor Rajeevan.
He denied the allegation levelled by defence counsels that his practice was to get out on bail and give evidence against the CPI (M) workers.
The court also examined Thalassery Joint Regional Transport Officer M. Rajan , who submitted documents regarding the ownership of the Toyota Innova MUV that was allegedly hired by the assailants.
