Babu Chalil, the next day after the Revolutionary Marxist Party leader was killed on May 4, 2012.

Duration of call

Deposing before R. Narayana Pisharadi, special judge, Special Additional District and Sessions Court (Marad Cases), Mr. Komath said that Kunhanandan, member of the Panur area committee of the CPI (M) had called from the Vodafone mobile connection (9846246611) to Babu’s phone number (9447546688) at 6.55 am on May 5. The duration of the call was 127 seconds, he said.

He also produced the call data records of the connection before the court.

Gang hired

The case relates to a section of CPI (M) activists allegedly hiring a gang to kill Chandrasekharan at Onchiyam.

The prosecution charge was that Kunanandan, a key conspirator in the case, had made the call to Babu for providing a safe hideout for the seven assailants after carrying out the operation.

28th accused

Mr. Komath also told the court that the 28 accused P.M. Rameesh aka Kuttu had made a call from the mobile phone used by the eighth accused K.C. Ramachandran, who is also the member of the Kunnummakkara local committee of the CPI (M), to his own mobile phone that was in possession of the third accused and one of the assailants N.K. Sunil Kumar aka Kodi Suni on May 2, 2012. The call duration was 118 seconds.

The prosecution case was that Rameesh , who had been entrusted with the task of spotting Chandrasekharan, had called Kodi Suni and others, who were then waiting at Azhiyoor.

Chandrasekharan was at Orakatteri at that time.

Earlier, defence counsels contested that the appointment of Rajkumar Parothil as Manager, Legal and Regulator, Idea Cellular Limited, Kochi and said that he had not been authorized to produce the call record details.

Rajkumar had testified against the accused on Wednesday and Thursday.

They argued that the address of Chandrasekharan mentioned in the application form when he had applied for a mobile phone was wrong. The address mentioned was T.P. House.

Meanwhile the call details records of the sixth accused S. Shijith aka Annan, Rameesh and Chalil Babu were also produced in court.

Vehicle release

In another development, K.P. Naveen Das of Thalassery, owner of the Toyota Innova car bearing the registration number KL-58D- 8144 moved an application before court seeking release of the vehicle.
