Final arguments on the murder case of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan commenced on Wednesday with the prosecution summing up evidence placed on record and testimonies of witnesses before the court.
Special Prosecutor P.K. Sreedharan opened the arguments before Special Additional District and Sessions Court (Marad Cases) Judge R. Narayana Pisharadi. The court however adjourned for the day at lunch-break. Hearing has been posted for Thursday.
The court last month had acquitted 20 accused, including a Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretariat member, based on the same witnesses’ statements and evidence. It had cited lack of evidence of their involvement in the crime.
CPI(M) Kannur district secretariat member Karayi Rajan and party youth wing SFI Kannur district secretary Sarin Sasi were among those let off.
Initially, the investigators had charge-sheeted 76 persons. However, only 57 persons faced trial in the court. With 20 acquitted, the arguments would now concentrate on the remaining number of accused in the case.
Mr. Chandrasekharan was murdered by a seven-member gang at Vallikkad near Onchiyam here on May 4 last year.
