The city police have introduced two digital touch screens at the District Collectorate and Mofussil bus station here, which will update the public on wanted criminals, crime statistics and status of their petitions in police stations across the State.
The touch screens are part of the police’s efforts to reach out to the public.
These touch screens, developed by Keltron and Information Kerala Mission, enable the users to obtain information on 16 services including status of petitions at the police stations in the State. Minister for Panchayats and Social Welfare M.K. Muneer commissioned the facility at the Mofussil bus station.
Information on government announcements, university examination results, Public Service Commission notifications, employment opportunities in the public sector, IMG training programmes, Kerala Water Authority and Kerala State Electricity Board bills, are available through these digital platforms 24 hours. These are connected via Internet to the police control rooms.
G. Sparjankumar, Commissioner of Police, Kozhikode city, said the kiosks were linked to the internal administrative processing system of the Kerala Police. To get the details of the petition, one has to enter the petition number using the keypad and then proceed to the “search petition” button on the touch screen computer.
The matched petition numbers would be displayed on the left block. By default, the details of the first petition would be listed on the right block. If more results are displayed on the screen, each petition number would have to be touched. The corresponding details would then be listed in the right block.
“So far, the police department has installed 69 such systems in the State. More will be installed in the city shortly,” Mr. Sparjankumar said.
The features would provide essential services not only to the public but also help the police to update the public on wanted criminals and crime statistics. The touch screen would also display all police helpline numbers.
