Three-day national tribal festival at Nilambur

Over 200 artistes to perform

The three-day national festival of Adivasis will begin in Nilambur on Friday.

Over 200 tribal artistes from across the country will present their unique art forms at the festival being jointly organised by the Kerala Folklore Akademi, the South Zone Cultural Centre of Thanjavur, and the Nilambur municipality.

P.K. Basheer, MLA, will inaugurate a cultural meeting to be held on Friday evening. Pazhani Swami and team from Attappady will present Irula dance. The Wayanad Nattukoottam will present Adivasi dance and tribal families of Nilambur will stage their dance forms the same evening.

Minister for Tourism A.P. Anil Kumar will inaugurate the festival on Saturday. Nilambur municipal chairman Aryadan Shoukath will preside. South Zone Cultural Centre director N. Sajith will deliver the keynote address.

Artistes will present folk art forms like Karma from Jharkhand, Gorvaria from Chattisgarh, Gusadi from Andhra Pradesh, Thoda from Tamil Nadu, and Gurvara Kunita from Karnataka.

Artistes of the Wayanad Nattukoottam will present Gothramozhi and Gaddhika. The Mangalamkali from Kasaragod, and Paniya dance from Nilambur will be the local attractions of the festival.

Poet Alankode Leelakrishnan will inaugurate the valedictory session on Sunday. P.V. Abdul Wahab, former MP, will be the chief guest.
