For Sheethal J.S. and P. Anu Aravind of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Kokkallur and Arshiya Ashok of Kasturba Public School, Kannur, winning The Hindu-Young World Painting Competition is a habit.

The trio have been featuring on the prize list of this competition for quite a few years now. They have been finding a place in the first three slots. They bagged the first, second, and third places respectively in the senior category of the competition this year as well.

Sheethal, a standard X student, has kept the first prize her monopoly throughout her high school years. She had won the first prize in the water colour painting event at the State School Arts Festival this year.

She has been taking part in The Hindu-Young World Painting Competition for five years now.

With their confident strokes, blend of colours, and depth, the three are a class apart.

The consolation prizes in the senior category were bagged by Abhishek N.K. of GHSS, Sivapuram and Yamini K. of Sacred Heart Girls GHSS, Thalassery, both regulars at the competition.

The junior category saw some fresh faces this year with Anjeetha Suresh and Sreenandana Sreejith, classmates at the Ursuline Senior Secondary School, Payyambalam, Kannur, bagging the first and second prizes respectively. Anjana L., a sixth standard student of Springvalley School, Chathamangalam, bagged the third prize. The two consolation prizes went to Abhay P.P. of Namanada AUP School and Priyath Manoharan of St. Michael’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Kannur.

The 22 edition of the competition, held at Silver Hills Higher Secondary School here on Saturday, saw students from Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasargod, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts turning up to showcase their talents. Many parents and teachers too had accompanied the children to the venue. Certificates were issued to all participants.

MIOT Hospitals, Chennai, was the presenting sponsor of the event while Malabar Eye Hospital and TBS Publishers were the prize sponsors. Brothers Bakery, Kozhikode, and Mint Supermarket, Ramanattukara, were the food and beverages partners.
