Teenager killed as excavator overturns

An 18-year-old student from Karnataka was killed when the excavator on which he was working as an assistant, slipped into a pond at Cherkapara in Panayal village, some 25 km from here, on Monday, the police said. Sachin, son of Madhava, a resident of Chennakoppa, near Hassan, died as the excavator engaged in clearing earth on a private premises turned turtle around 4 p.m. on Monday, also injuring his relative Sanjaya, an excavator crew member. Sachin who had appeared for the Plus Two examinations, was on a visit to his relative’s residence at Kuniya. The boy’s body was handed over to his relatives after carrying out the autopsy at the General Hospital here, the police added.
