Various teachers’ associations have welcomed the government move to implement five-day week at higher secondary schools.
In a release issued here, Kerala Higher Secondary Teachers Union (KHSTU) State president K.T. Abdul Latheef stated that the decision would help significantly improve the quality of higher education. “It was a long-pending demand of higher secondary students, teachers, and parents,” he said.
Stating that the decision would make more time available for students for studies, including home work, Mr. Latheef said it would also help them focus on extra-curricular activities.
The plan to cut short the working days of higher secondary schools, which was one of the important recommendations of the P.O.J. Labba Committee constituted to study the problems in the higher secondary education sector in the State, has also been hailed by the Aided Higher Secondary Teachers Association. Other major teachers’ forums, including the Kerala School Teachers Association (KSTA) and the Higher Secondary School Teachers Association (HSSTA), had earlier welcomed the decision.
