The streets of Kozhikode were flooded with little Krishnas and Gopikas on Wednesday afternoon as part of the Sree Krishna Jayanthi Shobha Yatra organised by Balagokulam in the city.

The tableaux presented by various localities that adorned the streets were breathtaking. Scenes from the life of Sree Krishna like Kaliyamardhanam, Geethopadesham, and Puthanamoksham were there as usual. There were also rare tableaux such as Ananthashayanam and Matsyavatharam which entertained the crowd that had gathered on either side of the road to watch the procession.

The city came to a halt during the later part of the afternoon despite the traffic regulations imposed. The police had a tough job handling the crowd that was often seen erupting with cheers.

Shobha Yatras started from various parts of the city and suburbs by 3.30 p.m. and converged with the Maha Shobha Yatra at various points. Director of Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode Debashish Chatterjee inaugurated the Maha Shobha Yatra on the Tali temple premises in the city around 3.45 p.m.

After the confluence with the little Shobha Yatras, the Maha Shobha Yatra went around the city and concluded on the Annapoorneshwari temple premises in Muthalakkulam around 7 p.m. Balagokulam had arranged various tableaux like Guruvayur temple, Gosala, Krishna lifting the Govardhana, and Kaliyamardhanam at the Muthalakulam grounds where the concluding ceremony was held. Bhajans were held at the ground from 3 p.m. onwards. A dance drama on Sree Krishna was held at 5 p.m. Around 3,000 small Shobha Yatras was held in different parts of the district on Wednesday causing the traffic to be suspended in the district for hours.
