November 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Kozhikode:

A senior Civil Police Officer (CPO) from Nadakkavu station was found dead at his house in Balussery on Friday. The man was identified as A.P. Shaji, 34, who was under suspension following an inquiry ordered against him over the posting of an offensive picture in a WhatsApp group.

Police sources said the man was upset after he was held responsible for the incident in which he allegedly forwarded the offensive picture to a group that was constituted to discuss the activities of the ORC (Our Responsibility to Children) project.

“The picture was actually forwarded to a senior police officer as proof for conducting investigation into a cyber crime, but it accidentally landed in an unintended group, which annoyed several people,” said a police officer from Nadakkavu station.

As per the preliminary investigation of the Balussery police, the man committed suicide because he was unable to withstand the sarcastic comments and distorted media reports on the incident, he said.

Shaji allegedly forwarded an offensive picture to a WhatsApp group created by police.
