A 42-year-old Kodiyathur resident, Parappurathu Ramesh, who survived a murder attempt in September last, was found dead near his house on Saturday. His body was found hanging from a tree.

It was on September 13, 2017 that Ramesh was admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital with deep stab injuries all over his body. After the assault, the attackers had thrown him into a deep well. He was rescued in time and had recuperated with the support of intensive medical care.

Suicide?

The death, suspected to be a case of suicide, came when the police investigation was in full swing to trace Ramesh’s attackers. Five persons, including his relatives and neighbours, had been arrested following a preliminary investigation.

Sources said that the accused neighbours and relatives had come up against the police, alleging that the case against them had been fabricated on the basis of untrustworthy statements.

They were also planning to approach the Chief Minister and senior police officers seeking a fair reinvestigation into the case. According to them, Ramesh had allegedly not revealed anything about the attack and the reasons behind it.
