Student found dead in lodge

Death due to drug overdose, say police

KOZHIKODE: A 22-year-old student of Malabar Christian College here was found dead in a lodge at Govindapuram on Sunday morning. The police identified the student as Shahil Shajahan from Vellayil.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the youth had died during his stay in the lodge along with four friends. According to the police, Shahil was brought dead to a private hospital in the city in the morning.

Meanwhile, the Medical College police recorded the statements of Shahil’s roommates. The police suspect the youth had died of drug overdose. A case has been registered under Section 174 (unnatural death) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Tension prevailed on the lodge premises, as a group of unidentified men allegedly manhandled a journalist who had gone to report the incident. T.D. Dileep, who suffered injuries, was admitted to the General Hospital.
