The final draft of ‘Melody’— a comprehensive education project for improving the standard of schooling and the facilities of educational institutions in the Kozhikode South Assembly constituency — was formally released here on Saturday.
District Collector C.A. Latha received the first copy from Minister for Panchayats and Social Welfare M.K. Muneer.
33 schoolsThe project, implemented under the direct supervision of Dr. Muneer, would cover all the 33 schools, including lower primary, upper primary, high school, and higher secondary schools, in the constituency. Cooperation of various sponsors and private institutions would be sought to implement the scheme.
Dr. Muneer said the project would strive to ensure a better learning atmosphere at the identified schools with a focussed academic enrichment programme and would attempt to improve the existing amenities. Skill development, library renovation, and laboratory facilities would be some of the highlights of the project, he said.
Project coordinators said ‘Melody’ would embark on a series of special intervention programmes, including SPECTRUM (Self Protection, Education, Care, Training, and Rehabilitation Unit of Mankind) and ESEFL (Eradicating Social Evils for Fruitful Life), with a 72-point action plan. Creating child-friendly schools would be another prime goal of Melody.
P. Ushadevi, chairperson of the City Corporation’s standing committee on education, presided over the ceremony. K. Prasannakumari, Deputy Director of Education, and K. Moideenkoya, chairman of the Kerala Urban and Rural Development Finance Corporation were present.
