Even as the delay in starting the construction of the IT park project in Kozhikode is feared to impact the execution of the proposed IT park projects at Eramam-Kut toor in Kannur and Cheemeni in Kasaragod, steps are now on to tender works for constr ucting perimeter walls of the proposed campuses envisaged as spokes of the Kozhikode park conceived as the hub.
The proposed IT park project in Kozhikode coming up on a 28-hectare land has been delayed as the construction contract awarded to a Hyderabad-based company was terminated when it failed to commence the works. Cyberpark officials hoped that the hurdles that delayed the work in Kozhikode would not affect the execution of the projects at Eramam-Kuttoor and Cheemeni for which the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (Nabard) has already sanctioned nearly Rs.25 crore each. A major handicap for developing the park at Eramam-Kuttoor being the absence of an access road to the plot, the officials said that the process of acquiring one acre land for developing the 300-feet access road is now under way.
The IT parks being developed by the Cyberpark, a State government organisation modelled on the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and Infopark in Kochi, are envisioned as institutions for the promotion of investments in IT and ITES sectors in the Malabar region. While the project at Eramam-Kuttoor is coming up on a 10.37-hectare land, the Cheemeni project will be developed on a 40.40-hectare land.
The projects, which include development of IT park start-ups of 1.5 lakh sq.ft. each with state-of-the-art facilities, will attract entrepreneurs in the IT and ITES sectors.
