Youth Affairs Minister P.K. Jayalakshmi will unveil the statue of Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, who fought against the British forces in Wayanad jungles, at Mavilamthodu, near Pulpally, at 3.30 p.m. on Friday.
It is believed that Pazhassi Raja was killed on November 30, 1805 at Mavilamthodu. Binu Thathupara, a sculptor in the district, took nearly three-and-a-half months to complete the work of the 11-feet statute.
Apart from the statue, a Smrithi Mandapom was also set up on one hectare of land of the district panchayat.
Research centreThe district panchayat has earmarked Rs.30 lakh to set up a research centre, a reading room, and a library at the site.
The Tourism Department allocated Rs.50 lakh to construct a facilitation centre, garden, compound wall, pathway, and a ticket counter at the site.
The works would be completed in three months, sources at the Tourism Department said.
