The 160 birth anniversary of Sree Narayana Guru was observed in Kozhikode with a variety of programmes.
The SNDP Yogam Kozhikode Union organised a colourful procession on the occasion. The procession that began from the Sreekanteshwara Temple premises in the city passed through Pavamani Road, Stadium, Mavoor Road and C.H. Flyover to conclude with a public meeting at Nalanda Auditorium. Thousands of people from various units of the union took part in the procession. Children dressed as mythical characters as well as historical personalities as well different tableux portraying the life of the great social reformer Sree Narayana Guru were the highlights of the procession.
M.K.Raghavan, MP inaugurated the public meeting while president of the Union T. Shanoob presided over the function. National Secretary of Karsha Morcha P.C. Mohanan delivered the Gurudeva Jayanthi message on the occasion. N. Vijayan of the Vijaya Hospital, was honoured on the occasion as he celebrated his 85 birthday recently.
The Sreekanteshwara Khsetra Yogam also celebrated the ‘Chathayam’ day in a grand manner. The celebrations that began on Sunday with Bhajan got into full swing on Monday. Various special poojas were held in the temple.
A procession was taken out in the morning in which various local units of the temple committee took part. The procession that began near the District Veterinary Hospital culminated at the Guruviharam near the temple.
The public meeting held later was presided over by president of the Yogam P.V.Chandran.
Faculty at Government College, Madhappally, K.V.Sanjay delivered the keynote address. The Yogam gave away clothes to 160 financially backward students on the occasion. A public lunch was held later. Prizes to the winners of the elocution competition held on August 31 were distributed on the occasion.
