With fancy costumes and in colourful motorcades, political parties wound up their campaign in Kozhikode district on Saturday.

Youngsters were seen wandering along city roads with two-wheelers carrying party flags. .

When a few youngsters appeared in various parts of the city with specially designed masks and flags to spice up the ‘Kottikalasam’, their elder counterparts managed to stand up and danced in the crowd in tune with the campaign songs. Large number of children also joined the outdoor campaigners.

On Saturday, the coastline of the city was the centre of celebration, where the political parties had been allotted separate space for their gathering and avoid chances of clashes. Armed policemen had also been deployed along the coastline.

“The final campaign is always special here as it really displays the strength of all political fronts,” said Mubashir, a fisherman from Vellayil region.

The sensitive rural areas of the district remained calm with no big outdoor celebrations and processions. Restrictions had been imposed in certain areas of Nadapuram and Kuttiyadi constituencies.

Police officials from Nadapuram station said the decision to avoid heated campaigns was taken at an all party meeting and with the consent of all prominent leaders.
