Akshaya - a subsidiary of the Kerala State Information Technology Mission - will soon conduct a number of special camps in the corporation areas, municipalities and grama panchayats with a mission to complete the Aadhaar enrolment of all children below the age of six.
As per the official figures available with the coordinators of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), there are at least one lakh children in Kozhikode district who are yet to complete the Aadhaar enrolment procedures. The plan of the Akshaya is to ensure cent per cent enrolment of the target group within May 31.
Akshaya coordinators point out that the Aadhaar number is now a mandatory requirement for all children to benefit from various government welfare schemes. It is needed even for admission in most of the schools, they add.
Parents will be able to complete the formalities by producing their Aadhaar cards and birth certificates of children.
Regional Akshaya centres will be coordinating the camps as per the schedule provided by the IT Mission.
Though arrangements are in place to complete the special enrolment drive within May 31, the details of the venues in the limits of various local bodies are yet to be announced by the Akshaya. Officials confirm that the list will be announced shortly after holding final discussions with the participating Akshaya entrepreneurs in the mission.
Special enrolment camps, focussing various groups, had earlier been held in the district. The special drive conducted in previous years had even benefited around 113 bed-ridden citizens in Kozhikode district. Similarly, special camps had been arranged for government employees, college students and working class in various parts of the district.
