Speaker to open Assembly jubilee

Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan will open the district-level celebrations to mark the diamond jubilee of the Kerala Legislative Assembly at Tagore Centenary Hall here on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference on the eve of the four-day event, District Collector U.V. Jose said the district would pay respect to all the freedom fighters besides honouring the former legislative assembly members. The event would also draw the participation of the student community, he added.

Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran will chair the inaugural event, honouring former MLAs and the freedom fighters. Minister for Excise T.P. Ramakrishnan will deliver the keynote address.

The inaugural function will also pay tribute to C.H. Mohammed Koya, who adorned the chair of Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Speaker and State Minister. Former Additional Chief Secretary D. Babu Paul will deliver the Mohammed Koya memorial lecture.

Exhibition

On Wednesday, an exhibition featuring the history of Kerala Assembly will be organised at the Town Hall. C.K. Nanu, MLA, will inaugurate the exhibition. A mock assembly for students too will be part of the day, which will be inaugurated by Mr. Ramakrishnan.

On Thursday, two short films, Nammude Niyamasabha and Vajra Keralam, will be screened at the Town Hall. The screening, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., will continue till 8 p.m. .

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the valedictory session on Friday. A seminar on ‘Legislation for comprehensive health care and concerns’ will be the highlight of the day. Health Minister K.K. Shylaja will open the seminar in which Kerala Planning Board member B. Eqbal will present the topic.
