A collective of former students of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C) has come out with a novel idea to help students solve mathematical problems for competitive examinations.

The members of the collective told a press conference here on Monday that they had launched a WhatsApp version of their services recently following repeated requests from students.

It was almost an year ago that the collective launched the website, mystudypark.com, to help students in solving mathematical problems. Students were expected to mail their problems to the site and the answers would be published. The service, which was available for free-of-cost through will now be available on WhaatsApp on the number, 97450 07001.

S. Manoj Kumar, one of the three members of the group, said around 5,000 students were already using the website. “We are extending the service through the new application following mass requests from the users,” he said.

The students can now send their problems or doubts as messages to the phone number. “The sender will receive the answers as video files without much delay,” said V. Sreeram, another member. The students, who send the requests should specify which category their problems belong to. It could be SSLC/ Plus Two/ CBSE or Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), Mr. Sreeram said.

The service would be available for those who send a register request to the given number after saving it in their smartphones.

“A number of students, preparing for various competitive examinations, are making use of the service,” said Mr. Manoj Kumar, who hails from Thiruvannur in Kozhikode. “Initially, we started it for fun, but gradually it turned out to be a serious enterprise, useful for hundreds of students,” he said. K. Sathyanarayanan, another member, also spoke.
