Fasal’s eyes were out on stalks when he scanned his new health insurance smart card issued under the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana. His name was printed in Malayalam as Fasal ‘Mukhya Mantri’. The casualty of the quirky mechanical translation was his initials ‘C.M.’, the common English acronym used for Chief Minister.

It was on April 18 that Fasal, 41, completed all formalities for obtaining a health insurance card. It was issued to him through an Akshaya centre at Mukkom. Fasal came across the puzzling error only on Wednesday as he had not opened the cover for more than a week.

“When I specified the error, the Akshaya staff simply laughed at me, saying there would be no issue in availing insurance benefits using the card,” said Fasal. He added that he wanted to approach the higher authorities for rectifying the mistake.
