Siblings attacked by teenagers’ gang

February 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Kozhikode:

A higher secondary school girl and her younger brother from Kuttiyadi, near here, were manhandled by a five-member gang led by two of her classmates at Koodaranji on Wednesday.

The Thiruvambady police said the gang, including two minors, followed the siblings who were travelling by bus from Mukkom to Koodaranji, following suspicion that they were lovers.

Three of the gang members were travelling by the same bus and two others followed them on a motorbike.

Near school

The attack took place around 11 a.m. when the siblings were coming out of the school after enquiring about the date of issuing hall tickets for Plus One examinations. All the accused in the case are aged below 20 years and were taken into police custody from the spot.

The police said the girl had reportedly turned down a proposal made by one of the gang members, which ultimately led to the clashes on the school premises.

‘Revenge attack’

Police officers said that it could not be treated as a case of moral policing as the students and their friends acted out of revenge.

All the five accused were charged under sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), 147 (punishment for rioting), and 149 of the Indian Penal Code.

Probe on

“We are conducting further inquiry in the case as two minors too are involved in the case,” said a police officer from Thiruvambady station.

“We have summoned their parents too. Currently, the investigation is led by sub-inspector Kunhammad Kutty,” he said.
