They allegedly barged into a clinic and took away medicines

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the District Medical Officer (DMO) of Kozhikode to conduct an inquiry and take appropriate action against two health inspectors who allegedly barged into a homoeopathic clinic and took away many medicines.

Member of the Commission K.E. Gangadharan has asked the DMO to submit a report on the action taken on the issue to the SHRC within three months. The direction comes as a result of an incident concerning Junior Health Inspectors Rajeevan and Surendran at the Kunnummal Public Health Centre in Kozhikode.

As per a complaint filed by Dr. G. Rajesh, a resident of Vattoli, Kakkattil, he had given an application to the secretary of Kunnummal grama panchayat for the registration of his clinic named P.P. Joy Memorial Clinic.

Raid

On October 18, 2013, the two health inspectors had conducted a raid at his health centre and had taken away the medicines stored at the clinic. However, the registration was denied later. The SHRC had asked an explanation for the incident from Drugs Controller, Thiruvananthapuram, who responded that the health inspectors had in fact misused their power. The Commission, in the direction given to the DMO, said the the duo caused inconvenience to the complainant by taking away the medicines when they had no power to do so.

The Commission also asked the DMO to conduct a hearing for the health inspectors and include it in the report.
