The Fancy Fete organised on Saturday by the Kozhikode chapter of the All India Women’s Conference (AIWC) provided an avenue for women to showcase their entrepreneurship skills. The AIWC, with 135 members in the district, has been organising programmes over the years to promote women entrepreneurs. The members are mostly homemakers.
The fete this year was organised at Alakapuri Auditorium and had 25 stalls featuring products ranging from garments to food. The garments section had saris, churidar materials, kids’ wear, and kurtis. One stall had bed sheets, cushion covers, and bags made of hand-woven material.
A few stalls displayed fancy jewellery studded with American diamonds and precious stones. Terracotta, beaded, and paper jewellery too were for sale. There was a spread of traditional dishes too. The AIWC had set up a gaming zone for visitors. Secretary of the chapter Usha Rajagopal said the number of entrepreneurs applying for the stalls was increasing every year and hence the forum was planning to conduct the fete twice a year.
