Shibin murder case verdict today

The Special Additional Sessions Court (Marad cases) will, on Wednesday, pronounce the verdict in a case of the murder of Democratic Youth Federation of India activist C.K. Shibin Bhaskaran of Nadapuram.

Shibin, 19, was murdered by an armed gang allegedly owing allegiance to the Indian Union Muslim League at Vellur at Thooneri around 10 p.m. on January 22, 2015. Six others, including two Congress workers, were also injured in the attack.

The incident had led to large-scale disturbances in Nadapuram and adjoining areas for more than six months.

The then Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, had to call an all-party meeting to restore peace in the region known for its political and communal sensitivities .

17 accused

There are 17 accused in the case. Ten of them were accused of directly involved in the attack while others were charged with harbouring the offenders.

One of them is a juvenile in conflict with law and his case was referred to the Juvenile Justice Board.
