June 22, 2014 01:09 pm | Updated 01:09 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The Shetaxi and Kudumbasree Travels, huge hits in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, respectively will be launched in Kozhikode in two months, Minister for Social Welfare M.K. Muneer has said.

Inaugurating the first Kudumbasree e-shop in the State at Oyitty Road in Kozhikode on Saturday, the Minister said there would be 25 Shetaxis and 20 Kudumbasree Travels vehicles in the first phase.

Dr. Muneer said she-toilets, complete with napkin-vending machines, would be set up in different parts of the city in three months.

The Department of Social Welfare planned to open Kudumbasree Cafes. He sought the help of Mayor A.K. Premajam in identify space for the project.

The department had set apart Rs.10 lakh for a market facilitation centre to showcase Kudumbasree products. This project too depended on the availability of space, he said.

Talks were on for another project — the night eateries that will be open from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. to cater to night travellers. It would be started as a pilot project in Kozhikode and then extended to Thiruvananthapuram.

The e-shop featured a variety of food products besides Kudumbasree items. The outlets were equipped with CCTV cameras and emergency alarms for safety. Kudumbasree member secretary M.V. Ramsi Ismail said four more such shops would be opened in the city by Monday.
