Sexual abuse: police team leaves for Mumbai

A five-member police team from Kozhikode left for Mumbai on Sunday to conduct a follow-up inquiry into the incident in which a 15-year-old Mumbai girl was recently trafficked to Kozhikode for flesh trade.

The police team headed by Sub-Inspector Dileep from Chevayoor police station would mainly try to locate the residence of the victim and seek the custody of one her close relatives who allegedly sold the girl.

Two persons suspected to be part of the racket had earlier been arrested by the police.

The abuse of the minor girl came to light on April 3 when she approached the Women’s Police station here after escaping from the custody of the accused.

Helpfrom auto driver An auto-driver from the city took the girl to the police station and helped her to file a complaint.

Following the investigation, two persons — Saji Shameer, 43 and Jaffer Ali, 30 — were arrested by the police and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. As part of expanding the inquiry to Mumbai, they were later released in police custody.
