Serial burglary: three auto drivers arrested

Two more suspected to be part of the gang

A police team led by Assistant Commissioner A.J. Babu (Kozhikode South) arrested three autorickshaw drivers from the city on Saturday on charges of burglary in over 25 vacant houses.

The three accused — K.M. Mohammed Ashraf, 24; M.P. Vimalesh, 28; and E.K. Vijosh, 30, operated the thefts within a three-month period with the support of two others.

Police officials said the other two gang members, suspected of having lead roles in the crime, would be netted soon. They also said that the valuables sold in various neighbouring States would be recovered after examining the complaints from various parts of the city. It was found that the three drivers were involved in similar cases reported from Kannur, City Police Commissioner A.V. George, said.
