The victim in a sexual harassment case does have the right to retain her identity and the purpose of a women-friendly society is to ensure that she does not suffer for it, said Minister for Social Welfare and Panchayats M. K. Muneer.
Inaugurating a media workshop on women empowerment organised by the Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation (KSWDC) here on Sunday, he said that the social ostracism faced by the victims of sexual violence are more hurting than the act itself and the media had to deliberately change the style of reporting so as to sensitize the society to her rights.
He also called for a sensitisation in handling such cases at all levels. He said that the government was planning to set up three shelter homes and speed-track courts. The KSWDC also had plans to set up women friendly toilets across the State for the convenience of travelling women, the Minister added. Chairperson of KSWDC P. Kulsu presided over the inaugural function.
