June 28, 2014 12:35 pm | Updated 12:35 pm IST - Kozhikode:

A seminar on ‘Child rights’ organised by the Anweshi Research Centre for Women’s Studies here on Friday, called for a thorough investigation into the increasing incidents of trafficking girl children for flesh trade.

Panelists, including lawyers and social activists who addressed the seminar, stressed on the need to expose organisations those work under the banner of charity and secretly collude with tainted agencies to support women trafficking.

Papers presented at the programme criticised that human trafficking was emerging as the most cruel face of globalisation and girl children and women were not in a situation to live safe in their own land, especially in some States in north India.

The trend should be considered as the biggest social issue and should be attended to immediately by the responsible authorities, the panelists observed.

Writer and social critic M.N. Karassery opened the seminar.

Maria Louise, advocate, introduced the topic for discussion.

Representatives of various women’s organisations also attended the programme, which was chaired by Anweshi’s president K. Ajitha.
