: As many as 1,200 police personnel from the city limit and two companies of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) will be deployed to ensure foolproof security to the participants at the four venues of the National Games, scheduled to begin in the city on February 1.

In addition, five companies of the Malabar Special Police (MSP) and personnel from the Armed Reserve camp will assist the main wing in law and order management. Security cover and full-time escort will be provided to all sportspersons who reach the city. Shadow police and senior Intelligence Bureau officials will offer their services to strengthen the security arrangements.

Briefing mediapersons about the security measures, City Police Commissioner A.V. George said a huge turnout of people was anticipated for the games, but it would not be more than the school arts festival, which the police managed quite well. “Here, we hope to handle the situation comfortably with the available force and the additional companies sanctioned by the Centre,” he added.

Mr. George said closed circuit television cameras would be installed at the four venues — Kozhikode Medical College ground, Kozhikode Beach, Corporation Stadium and the nearby Indoor stadium. Parking regulations would be strictly enforced.

As per the traffic management plan, traffic regulations will be enforced from February 1 to February 14. The regulations will be in force only when the games are in progress and mostly during the afternoon. Buses operating city services to the Medical College side via Pavamani Road will be diverted through the YMCA Cross Road- Arayidathupalam route. Similarly, buses from the Medical College side to Palayam bus stand will be diverted via Puthiyara-Kalluthankadavu route. Buses plying between Kannur-Kozhikode route will move along the Puthiyara-Arayidathupalam-Eranhipalam route.

Parking will not be permitted along Pavamani Road, Sreekanteswara Temple Road, Mavoor Road, Poonthanam Junction, Woodland Junction and Puthiyara Road. Nearly 10 parking sites have been already identified for the public, which are close to the selected venues, they said.
