Second Young World quiz title on the trot for Bhavan

It was the second consecutive win for Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Perunthuruthi, at The Hindu Young World quiz. The team, consisting of Abhirami G. and Alok Reon Baiju, left competitors miles behind, while winning the Kozhikode phase of the 14 Young World quiz held at the Tagore Centenary Hall here on Thursday. They bagged 169 points and will represent Kozhikode at the finale of the competition to be held in Mangalore on November 18.

The team from St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School, Tenhipalam, gave a fight in the beginning, but soon lost the advantage to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chevayur, and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ottappalam, only to bounce back and bag the first runners up title. The team consisting of Amal Damodaran and Sreeram M. Unnithan bagged 87 points. The Bhavan’s, Chevayur, team consisting of Nandagopal M. and Mahadev Nambiar and the KV, Ottappalam, team consisting of Ajmal Roshan and Anjali Joseph E. bagged the third (76 points) and fourth (75 points) positions respectively.

The team from Government Higher Secondary School for Boys, Koyilandy, was the first ever team from a government school to reach the finals in Kozhikode.

The team consisting of Ashwin S. and Akshay Raj put up a good fight at the end, amassing 29 points to bag the fifth place.

However, the team from Rani Public School, the toppers in the preliminary round, could not repeat the success in the finals, ending up sixth.

The team consisting of Sidharth Vasumithran and Vishnu Prasad R. could gain only four points thanks to a number of negative points.

All the finalists were given gift hampers from Success Note Books, Reynolds, White School, Capex Cashews and Gold Winners, besides cash prizes and Young World trophies.

The winners got a cash prize of Rs.10,000. The first runner-up got Rs.5,000 and the second runner-up Rs.3,000. The fourth, fifth, and sixth prize winners got Rs.2,000 each. All the participants got certificates.

There were also prizes for the audience who provided many an answer when the contestants could not.

The presenting sponsor of the event is Britannia Milk Bikis Future Minds while Dabur Real Fruit Juice is the beverage partner.
